Originally based in Merzig, and later moving to Beckingen, Hartge’s aim was to place far more powerful engines inside the smaller BMW production cars. The results took the cars far away from their original design purpose, and a number of ‘Frankensteins’ were created at enormous expense. Hartge pushed the boundaries of what was possible, and attention to detail was second to none. Achieving manufacturer status in 1985, Hartge built giant killers out of everyday BMWs and have earned a real cult following. This 1997 BMW 3 Series was developed and tuned into a brutal 4.7-litre V-8 powerhouse in 1999.
