W09F10X01HBH06116 Built by the Hartge Brothers utilizing a Mercedes-Benz 300E modified with a BMW M88 Tuned Engine The only example of its kind A fantastic restoration opportunity Hartge were a third party, German tuning house formed in 1971. Originally based in Merzig, and later moving to Beckingen, Hartge’s aim was to place far more powerful engines inside the smaller BMW production cars. The results took the cars far away from their original design purpose and a number of ‘Frankensteins’ were created at enormous expense. Hartge pushed the boundaries of what was possible, and their attention to detail was second to none. Achieving manufacturer status in 1985, Hartge’s built giant killers out of everyday BMW’s, and have earned a real cult following. To say the car offered here is unique would be an understatement. Known for their work on BMW’s, this creation goes against the mould, and is a true one-off. This car began life as W124-generation Mercedes 300E with 180 bhp. That was, until it ended up in the hands of the Hartge brothers. The engine and transmission were removed, and in went a BMW M88 engine, known primarily for its place under the bonnet of a BMW M1, M635 or the E28 M5. The engine was tuned further with higher compression and bored out to 3,535 cc from 3,453 cc. Manual transmission came from BMW E24-genertion 6 Series and the chassis handling was revised in typical style with Bilstein sports suspension. The result was an un-repeatable car with shocking performance, build without regard to cost. With 330 BMW-derived horsepower on tap in a Mercedes chassis, the car became a fascination of the press. Accompanied with various articles documenting the history of the car, this is perhaps Hartge’s ultimate creation. Presented in unrestored condition, this represents the opportunity to own a Hartge like no other Only one of one ever made. Full documentation.
