Auction Grades

This translated version of an auction sheet tells you information about the car to decide if it is within your guidelines to justify inspecting it. There is general information about the car regarding its year of manufacture, kilometers, air conditioning, LHD or RHD, modifications and so on. There are also gradings on the cars overall condition, interior condition and exterior condition based on objective assessments made by the auction houses staff who inspect all cars before they go through the auction.

The legend below tells you the gradings the auction staff use to describe things like scratches, dents, interior condition and overall condition.

OVERALL AUCTION GUIDE

S The vehicle is less than 12 months old from the first registration and has done less than 10,000kms. As new condition, interior and exterior are immaculate.
6 The vehicle is less than 36 months old from the first registration and under 30,000kms. Interior and exterior are in excellent condition.
5 The vehicle has done less than 50,000kms, minor interior and exterior marks, no damage.
4.5 The vehicle has done less than 100,000kms, generally excellent condition. Some minor marks and signs of wear.
4 Above average condition, some sign of scratches, dents, wear.
3.5 Average condition for the age and mileage. Expect exterior scratches, dents, marks, paint blemishes and interior wear and tear.
3 The exterior will have multiple noticeable scratches, marks, dents, paint blemishes, paint fade and interior will be in below average condition. Many low grade car require panel beating work/re-spray.
2 Generally grade 2 cars will be in very poor condition or have some major faults. Many grade 2 cars also have heavy corrosion.
1 Can have serious issues such as flood or fire damage or may be heavily modified.
RA The car has had a minor repair.
R The car has had accident damage and has been repaired.
*** A non-running or non-graded car. Cars in this section usualy have major issues, accident damage that has not been repaired yet or engine/transmission problems.

INTERIOR GRADE

A New or almost new condition
B Very clean and tidy, maybe minor steering wheel and seat wear
C The car has some, or all of the following conditions:
1) Tears, cigarette burn marks, worn patches, visible open screw holes, dashboard warping, and/or dashboard has some small tears, faded/yellowed/broken trim.
2) The interior is dirty and needs to be cleaned.
D Repair and/or heavy cleaning is necessary. Hanging headlining/missing rear seats/ missing plastic panels etc will result in this grade.
E Poor condition, needs repair and cleaning. Also could have a bad smell due to damp or heavy smoking.

A1 2-3cm scratch.
A2 Up to 10cm scratch.

U Minor dent.
U1 2-3 cm dent.
U2 Up to 10cm dent.
U3 Over 10 cm dent.
Y Minor crack.
Y1 2-3cm crack.
Y2 Up to 10cm crack.
Y3 Over 10cm crack.
W1 Paint wave/Repair Mark
W2 Paint wave/repair in good condition.
W3 Paint wave/Repair Mark, Very obvious will need a re-spray.
X Item needs to be replaced.
XX Item has been replaced.
S1 Surface rust level 1
S2 Surface rust level 2
S3 Surface rust level 3
C1 Corrosion Level 1

G Markings on the windscreen indicate a stone chip, crack or sign of repair work.
The numbers on the tyres indicate the amount of tyre tread.
